Beginners Courses - 2018

Our Beginner Courses for 2018 are now fully booked. The course dates for 2019 are still to be confirmed.

The Club runs Beginners Courses which are designed for both newcomers to the sport and those archers who may have shot in the past, but would now like a refresher before returning to the sport.

The courses usually consist of two three hour session run over a weekend. Those attending the courses are shown the correct way to shoot using a recurve bow, the various archery protocols (what you should and should not do), scoring, stringing, de-stringing a bow etc., plus the various safety requirements we all need to follow. Whilst it is obviously informative, it is also designed to be a fun experience.

The courses are very much "hands-on" for attendees and all the equipment you require to successfully complete the course is provided by the Club. The Club is fortunate enough to have 3 Archery GB qualified coaches to guide you through the learning process and to answer any questions you may have over the two days. Obviously this is just the start of the journey into the sport of archery, and help and guidance continues to be available for people choosing to become members of the Club following the course.

This is a sport open to people of all abilities and the age of the members at the Club currently ranges from 9 to 90+. We specify 9 years of age as a starting point, as this is when most junior members are strong enough to be able to pull a training bow and to shoot 20 yards which is the shortest recognised distance within the sport.

We run courses throughout the year, the frequency of which will depend to some extent on the number of requests we receive.

We maintain a waiting list for people who would like to attend a course and you can register yourself on the list by e-mailing the Beginners Course Organiser, Dave Ryan at beginners@1066archery.co.uk and requesting a Beginners Course form.

The cost of the course is 40.00 for a Junior (up to 17 years of age) and 70.00 for a Senior (18 years of age and over). Details regarding methods for payment for the courses are included on the form.

Once we have received your completed form together with appropriate fee, your place on the course will be assured.
