Beginners Courses

The Club runs Beginners Courses which are designed for both newcomers to the sport and Refresher Courses for those archers who are looking to return to the sport after an extended break.

Archery is a sport open to people of all abilities and the ages of our members range from 10-years to their late eighties. We have a minimum age of 10 years as this is when most junior archers are strong enough to draw a training bow and to shoot 20 yards, which is the shortest recognised distance within the sport.

The Club is fortunate enough to have a number of Level 1 and Level 2 Archery GB qualified coaches, who are available to guide students through the learning process. Obviously, a Beginners Course is just the start of the journey into the sport of archery, and help and guidance continues to be available for people choosing to become members of the Club following the course.

Course Format

Beginners courses consist of two three-hour sessions normally run over a single weekend.

Courses focus on teaching students to shoot a recurve bow safely and with the correct technique to prevent injury. In addition to the mechanics of shooting, students are taught how to string/de-string a bow, the archery protocols and safety requirement to follow when shooting along with an introduction to rounds and scoring. Guidance is provided throughout course by the Club’s qualified coaches, who will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Whilst it is obviously informative, it is also designed to be a fun experience.

All the equipment necessary to successfully complete the course will be provided by the Club.

Safeguarding

All of the Club’s coaches are subject to enhanced disclosure CRB checks and hold certificates of attendance to Safe Guarding and Protection of Children.

Cost

The full cost of a Beginners Course, including full use of the required equipment is: –

  • £70 Adult (18+)
  • £40 Junior (17 and under)

This includes tea/coffee or soft drinks over the two days.

Details of payment methods used by the Club are given on the course application forms.

How to Apply

We run a number of courses throughout the year. The frequency of which is dependent on the requests we receive. As such we maintain a waiting list for everyone that has expressed an interest in attending a course.

You can register for the waiting list by e-mailing the Beginners Course Coordinator at beginners@1066archery.co.uk.

Our Beginners Course Coordinator will keep you up to date with course dates and will provide the club’s Beginners Course Application form for attendees. Once we have received your completed form together with the appropriate fee, your place on the course will be guaranteed.
